First attempt: 9:31. I weighed in at 194.5 lbs before the ride. Heck you beat me! I'm still trying to finish it without having to rinse the delicious Annie's muffins off of my shoes ;D oh gosh, I mean

Yeah, my problem was the psychology of it all. I can push harder, just a matter of me doing it. Now that I know the course better I can pace myself correctly.

Clint Hennessee In Zone Effort Attempt - Wow I barely kept it in Z3 at the section where you turn right my HR went above it I tried to slow it down to keep me from having a Z4 HR average. I went steady, easy, and smooth the whole way. HR AVG - 172 Z3 Time: 7:24 I think I learned a good bit by doing this. These few things should help me in the future and everyone else A. On my first REAL attempt I went way to hard out of the gun if my time is less than a minute difference going easy I can imagine how much time I can make up by powering the second half of this course. B. Its this thing called "believing in yourself that every cyclist battles to learn to run better splits on the second half." My second split needs to be faster than my first split; basically the same concept as point (A). There is a chemical in your body "not sure of the name of it" but it works better if you use it during the second half also (maybe someone will know what I am talking about). C. Avoid looking out at the overlook. I know it sounds crazy but every time I look at it I get my mind off the riding and thing "oh how beautiful" yeah that will really help my time powerhouse the hell out of this section D. Start off from the gun very easy. I started off really easy tonight and it really helped me maintain a smooth pace the rest of the way. I gunned it the first real attempt and suffered up the whole thing that = big mistake! E. HAVE FUN!

Rode today with Chris. My time was 6:37. Better than my first attempt. I hope to get stronger later this summer. Chris will post his time. He rode tough.

Regarding In-Zone Efforts -- if you go for a fast time but post an average HR, you'll see your effort repeated in this section, with the HR. Sometime later in the season, try to stick your effort to the same HR, and we'll compare the time. Unless there's some other variable (sickness, overtraining, different bike, not enough to eat, different warm-up, crap on your mind, head wind, etc) then the difference will be a relatively objective measure of any change in climbing fitness (not long endurance, or speed).
I'll be changing these to alphabetical sorting.
In-Zone Efforts (not ranked/to be timed again against self) 9:50 at 135HR, Josh Whitmore 8:52 at 155HR, Scott Baker 7:24 at 172HR, Clint Hennessee 6:52 at 174HR, Scott Baker

I rode 9:10, 27 seconds better than last time. I started slowly, but still really died near the top.

Got on my road bike for the first time in, oh, about 6 months. This was my first time riding the airport climb in this direction. Hopefully I left some room for improvement. Time: 8:46 Thinking about running it on foot too! I can probably beat the MTB time, hahah Ryan
