So has anyone given this challenge a crack since April?

No, but it would be interesting to see Josh post a progression of "post-knee-surgery" climbs to measure his returning form... So has anyone given this challenge a crack since April?

I was talking to Cooper the other day we were discussing the fact that I never ride my bike. Specifically, I mentioned that I had ridden a total of less than 100 miles in the last two years combined. Cooper found that funnier than I thought was appropriate, although to his credit he said he would be happy to go ride with me no matter how slow. I wasn't sure his balance was good enough to go that slow, so I decided today to go for a ride on my own. And as I hunted for my neglected gear I decided that a fine way to get a baseline for my lack of fitness would be to head up to the airport.
I put on my heart monitor and as I pumped up my tires my HR was 135. That seemed like a bad omen. I rode across the back side of Little Savannah from Webster, over the hill, and down to the starting point. My heart rate had already hit 175 and pretty much stayed there, but I did some mental math and realized that my theoretical max should be about 182, so maybe I had a little left to spare. I got to the start, turned around, and started the climb. I was at 185 within the first 200 feet. And that's where I stayed the rest of the way. Except for the steeper sections where I hit 190. I'm pleased to say that I made it to the top. My time was 14:40. Nothing to be proud of, but maybe I'll ride a little more this Fall and see if I can bring it down. At the very least I doubled my mileage for the year. And it was nice to be out on a bike.
Time: 14:40 Avg. HR: 186 Max. HR: 190

Andrew,
I'm ready to join you! I was planning on setting a base time when this started several months ago and now Sept is looming. I don't think that my HRM batteries are any good any more, but I'll check. Let's go do it soon!

186? !!!!? For almost 15 minutes!?! Wrenchmeister is a tough hombre. That's suffering. Forget the time -- at 100 miles/year, that's so very trainable. The ability to maintain that kind of pain (186 is high for his age -- Wrench -- are you a masters contender -- 40+ in 2008? I need to know for the rankings) is more impressive. Way to go.
