Just to clarify, it's actually the NEXT traffic light on 107 after the WCU entrance, a couple hundred yards farther south. There's currently no street sign. There's an Exxon/ Huddle House on the corner. I like your map Scott.

I have only been to the top of airport once, over a year ago, and decided to see what the road was like today. I started easy, but as I turned to go up to the airport my time looked good so I booked it from there. As I went through the gate my time read 6:26. Name- Stephen Cat.- Men under 40 Time- 6:26 Ah Ha! I should have remembered Stephen! he has the most true climbers Physique around (little guys go fast up hill). Excellent time! Goes to show that saving a good bit for the second half is important! (TC take this advice) The smart TT rider will win the race.

Nice map Scott! I updated the times on reply #18. I'll continue to tally things and provide this service. You can check reply #18 periodically to see where things stand. Tony -- way to go -- you're the first to puke. Anyone who reports puking gets a " " next to their time. If folk are giving this their all, I anticipate more such results over the summer, especially in hot weather. Be careful!

awwww haha, i was fooled, but to the extent of not wanting an out of towner taking over our challenge! So i lubed the chain, even switched the 23 cassette for a 25 (that I took off Leah's bike) and then threw down the guntlet today. Here are my results.
Name: Stephen Benson Cat: Men under 40 Max speed: 15.8 mph Ave speed: 10.6 mph TIME: 6.00 mins
I had a good start and good ending, and my legs felt like they had a lot more in them, but my lungs and heart though were at a max.

Average speed for that short distance and that big climb won't turn up completely accurate. Also, it could just be a minor minor minor difference in the placement of their magnets for their computers on their bikes. The time shouldn't be skewed by computer placement at all.
I believe the most accurate assessment for this challenge is time, unless each rider borrowed Scott's garmin computer and that was what all riders based their times, speeds, cadence, etc on. Though that is a highly impractical and honestly an unintelligent option. To each rider his own.

It depends on if you ride the mustard or mayonnaise side of the lane (FYI, not my terms, but really funny anyway), or you could cross to the left to shorten the distance, too. But that would be cheating, right? And none of us are cheaters. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, lower speed, faster time. Elementary physics, class dismissed.

The time is from the moment that I crosses the gate and went into the airport. My average speed is from the time I slowed down, road a couple circles, then fell off the bike. The is extra time and and distance added to this. Sorry if my old bike and computer are cramping your style, I make with what I do, If you would like to time me, i plan on trying again in two weeks and i'll let you know when.

Nice ride Stephen. Very impressive! I vote for a new category by weight divisions! Age does not factor in as much as size on this climb. Mike - Feel free to reply with the updated results later in the thread so it is not buried in an old post. I don't mind that it is an incremental update in the thread.

Holy Moly, 6:00 flat is huge!
I should have known, Stephen Benson is definitely not "HUGE", at 135lbs he is probably the best suited for this kind of effort.
At any weight, 6min flat is impressive.
I predict a winning time of 5:40-5:50 by the end.

Yes 6 min is an amazing time. I am curious to see who runs under 6 first. Stephen I believe your time, its nothing like that. I believed it when you told it to me yesterday. CONGRATS ON THE TIME DUDE! I think Josh is right 5:40-5:50 will PROBABLY be the winning time unless a not-so-local fast climber does it. If anyone pulls off a 5:40 around here I will be very amazed. A time like 6 and under is where impressive should officially start. Do I think any wcu racers times including myself will be impressive NO (most of us are sprinters except Jay and he is still learning). I think Stephen has definately set a time that will be tough for anyone to beat.
