What happened? Did everyone decide to stay inside for the winter, off of the forums and on the rollers?
This place has been a ghost town!

I'm here. Still riding a lot. Finally gotten over a bunch of injuries and sickness. Deb and I have done 20 cyclocross races since mid-September and are on our way to the CX national championships in Bend Oregon at the end of this week. After that, I get about a week off the bike, then start again base training for road season.

I was kinda wonderin' that myself. I didn't get any replies about the weekend. Did a ride up to Balsam and back on Sunday.

I've almost fallen out of the habit of checking regularly because this board has been so dead.

The board typically gets slow in the late fall and winter. Still riding, but I have scaled back for little bit to not burn out and build back up. I will try and post my rides more, but many times they are rides of opportunity during the day. Maybe a weekend ride. Otherwise, there is not much else (for me) going on cycling-wise.

My riding has curtailed as well. It's almost time for finals here at WCU. Then again, I haven't had as much time to ride this semester. Still nice to check in on the forums from time to time and have something to read/discuss.

Great for avoiding cold, not being affected by darkness, and getting effective interval work done. Not great for long slow base training. I think my best season ever came after a winter of lots trainer work combined with 5-8 hours zone 2 rides every Sunday from January-March when the racing started. I also think it rained (almost) every Sunday. That was up in central Virginia alongside the Shenandoah, too... I went to the trainer for the winter ;D I am going to hide all winter & turn ghostly white ;D

Small ankle fracture for me while walking (!) to race registration. Hope to start riding gravel in few weeks. Hope the Parkway will be closed soon. ps Good luck to Deb and Josh today , conditions are ugly there. There might be a feed of pro nationals race tomorrow.

Unless things have changed, the parkway has been closed.

If you don't mind me butting in. Speaking of parkway closed. I used to ride it alot from Dec-March over the last 15 years and when it's closed it's great. Technically, are we allowed to ride on it though?? Doesn't really matter what the answer is cause I'm still gonna ride it when it's closed though. Where is it usually closed from as well? I forgot where the gates are anymore?
Thanks

If you are getting on at the Balsam entrance coming from Sylva, the gate is immediately to the right of the bridge (heading up towards Richland Balsam). If you are coming in from 74, the gate is off to the right of the entrance, up the hill a little bit (heading towards Waterrock Knob).

If they dont want bikes, they will post a sign on the gate that says no bikes. There used to be one up toward craggy last year when they had the road problems. I also believe a small stretch is closed to bikes right now going toward pisgah from asheville.

Met many rangers over the year while on a closed PW. No problems. I;m worried if someone gets hurt bad (ice in the tunnels!) it could change. Watch out guys! Once met a huge pack of coyotes. You don't want to lay there bleeding for sure.
