I figured I would write on this one since it’s the toughest Tuesday night ride I have done all season. All the heavy hitters were there except Josh. Some new people showed up who we had never really seen so it was cool to have some newbie’s on the ride. The ride started as always with the <15mph pace which was a good warm-up. As soon as we arrived to the hub it was still slow for about a half a mile. Greg was trying to talk me into attacking which ended up being the first move (why am I always the Tuesday night first move). I attacked fairly quickly to look back to see Scott and Gibbs coming after me. A lot of people missed the move because it was a quick jump from the back. I broke with probably a 10 sec gap all the ways up until the half-way point (where you turn left) then they finally caught me. My goal was to work on attacking so from here on out is where it gets really juicy. Once they caught me they were pretty tired so I kept on pulling. I pulled the whole way all but two times. Every hill we encountered I attacked with persistent pressure (attack after attack) only to find Scott and Gibbs on my heels every time. Even when I didn’t want to attack I did. I couldn’t believe that Scott and Gibbs were meeting the attacks. Finally I attack on the hill after the bridge really hard which eventually knocked Gibbs off (the same place Darby always dropped me). Then I feel a big shadow hover behind me…I can’t believe it! Scott just met the hardest attack yet (what was in his bottle tonight?). I am almost out of gas if he would have even put on the gas once here I would have been toast. I ask him to pull through he said he can’t he is already in the red zone (what he didn’t know is that I was too). He finally comes in front before a hill and I let him set his own pace. My heart rate finally drops to LT (184). I catch a breath before the hill then I get beside him to once again attack (yes every hill was attacked). Finally, I look back to see a small gap. I hang on for dear life to finally get about a 10 sec gap. The gap finally enlarged to ~ 30 sec to allow me to make it over the wall and finish. Scott came in right at 33 sec. behind me.
As for the sprint finish at the bottom it was a hair different. Carlos made an early move which almost took it but was caught 150m in. I sprinted to take it with Deb taking 2nd (way to beat up on the men Deb)! ;D
Sorry if this sounded like an (I) post but (I) wrote it. Add your touch if you want!
