Well for starters the weather was great. The course was fast with a tough uphill that leveled off at the top into a head wind that was very tough then turned into a fast, long downhill. The field was small ~ 20 but had some heavy hitters such as Mark Heckman and Dirk Pohlmann. Mark was last years Athens Twilight Criterium winner.
The race started off pretty tough. It was Mark Heckmann and Dirk Pohlmann hill intervals. I ended up getting gapped leaving Josh out to pull (a few cuss words flew by me but in all I understood why..hell its what I complained about last week). On the next lap Josh went up the road with someone else in what looked to be a breakaway attempt. It was very weird to explain the group caught him but 6 guys kinda rolled off the front (I not being one of them). It never was a fast breakaway or what looked to be a breakaway it was very deceiving when I watched it . By the time I realized it was a breakaway most of the guys where trying to do intervals instead of trying to catch it in a consistent smooth pace. Finally Kent and Me got them rolling but it was way to late by then. (From here Josh will have to tell his side of the story I don't know what went on up ahead). As for me it was fairly tough with pulls. Me and one guy got caught out by ourselves for a while in an attempt to make it to another group which worked but only to race for 7th. One guy broke away with Mark Heckman which was a very gutsy move. So now the peleton? Group? 2nd group? whatever you want to call us was lapped by Mark and Dirk and some Krystal guy. I grabbed dirks wheel into the sprint to win the field sprint but only to take 8th. I got my first taste of pro/1/2 money which was nice it should help out alot next week. It should have been more but Josh is still the fastest Cat2 I know.
