So I was thinking everyone else has a trainer spin night why not us? Anyone up for maybe starting a spin night...like a 1.5hr spin...I have plenty of room in my living room...system for music...and just have fun and spin our ===== off! Well anyone up for it let me know...we could talk about the best night if people want to do this!

Just a thought, but what about having a WCU Cycling Club spin night in the gym? You could work with the certified trainers to tailor unique spinning sessions, etc. etc.
I doubt there would be any costs other than what group training costs per semester. For what it's worth...

Well first off I hate the trainers they have. Also, I wouldn't want it to be in the category of WCU cycling club but yet WC community spin night as it should be open to anyone. Also, I have talked to one of the trainers I felt like they were much less knowledgeable than me about cycling in general especially meeting certain training needs. Also why pay when I have my own trainer and bike to set on? The purpose of the spin night I am trying to get going is everyone bring their bike's and trainers to one location (I personally have plenty of room in my living room), listnen to music, and just have a good time riding. Sadly your the first to respond and I don't think this would ever be a success here in this community but I do take all the plans I have back home which usually seem to work as their are quite a bit of dedicated bikers their (I figured this out last summer) who are usually very willing to do certain things such as a spin night.

I usually prefer to ride outside during the day, even if it is raining and cold.
However, both Clint's and Irish's suggestions are good. A club spin night in the gym could work if there was enough interest. The Collegiate team I raced for at the University of Montana actually had a PE class thay they could take for training. It allowed them to meet regularly to train, outside when it was nice and on the spin bikes when it wasn't (which was most of the winter).
I agree that the regular spin classes are not the best for training for cycling, especially if you have a training plan and hope to peak for certain events. They tend to go too hard and do too many intervals for the middle of winter. They are fun though, and you can choose to do whatever of the workout you want. Spinning the pedals in any way is better than nothing. I used to teach spin classes just to get in more training time.
A community indoor trainer session would also be nice. The elite team I raced for in Montana actually held 3 sessions per week for riders, mostly because it was near impossible to ride outside for much of the winter. In another month or so, I plan to have my garage finished, that could be a good venue. I don't mind hosting. Vespa may also have a good spot.
Any interest or suggestions for nights or times?

Nothing--and I mean nothing would make Vespa happier than having trainer night at his house.

Actually, this winter, I plan to train through meditation. I will sit in my hot tub and [glow=red,2,300]visualize [/glow]training hard.
In this way, I will become very fit and very fast, in my head.

Dave Scott and Mark Allen, fit and fast. I read in an article somewhere that athletes of this quality are once in a generation. It was just short of a miracle to have them both racing against each other. Six world championships each. How about this for a bold statment? The two greatest athletes of all time!!!

Oh excellent, you took the bait!! Just to set you straight, both men were professionals, and not at a low level (do you consider world champion low?). I never said greatest cyclist, swimmer, or runner. I said athlete. You mention Armstrong; in peak shape for the TDF he would win the bike, but his poor upperbody strength would leave him coming out of the water well behind the leaders. He may make that up on the bike, only to have his lunch eaten by Allen or Scott on the run, where they are the most proficient at dispensing with the also-rans. Armstrong's open marathon time is just under 3 hours, not even close to a winning time at the world championoships in Hawaii, and he would have to do that after swimming 2.4 miles and biking 112miles. He would fold like the cheap Walmart chair you have on your deck! (ok, vespa, take it easy. I'm joking about that, I'm sure all your deck furnature is from Williams and Sonoma). You can follow the above senario for the greatest swimmer and runner too. Scott and Allen won 6 world championships each!!!!!! I predict Armstrong will try to go for an IronMan title. It is going to take a few tries for him to get it, maybe 4. Those boys in Kona are hungry for that quarter million dollar paycheck, and if they see him coming they will try even harder.

I forgot to mention how happy I would be to see Lance win IM in Hawaii. I think we would hear him say he was in the best shape of his life. The Americans have not won in some time now, I think the last was Tim DeBoom years ago. The Germans have it neatly locked up for now.

Come on Ted, keep up! Right after Vespa said he wanted to sit in his hot tub, you talked about fit and fast. Debate on the relativisim ensued. I chose IronMan to be relative.
Me, I will spin some. The Jackson county rec center has several excellent spin classes I like to attend during the winter. It is really cheap, the bikes are real spin bikes, and they have a huge fan that keeps you cool. I tend to agree with Josh though, the class goes too hard for a winter workout. I am running a marathon in March, so my cycling will be an excellent addition to my runs. Cycling is great for your running, not so much the other way around.
Vespa, what happened to your post about Armstrong? Why did you take it down?

Vespa, what happened to your post about Armstrong? Why did you take it down? Oh, I was being argumentative and snippy, so I censored myself. I like the spin bikes in Reid, too -- HR is HR, if you're going for an hour or less. I find that using a HRM with zones and intervals makes the time go by faster. For long indoor workouts, I do think a trainer or rollers are much better.
