I was wondering if there are any places around WCU or Sylva to get a Vo2 test. I a test on a treadmill when I was 16, but I was curious to see what it is now that I am 25.

I don't know of any Vo2 testing capability in this area. Asheville has a couple facilities. the Velosports Performance Center is one that I would recommend.

Vo2 max is really not that useful of a number to know. Good for curiosity, but is only somewhat trainable after you reach a certain point. On a bike, you'd be better off knowing what your functional threshold power and Heart Rate are (the maximum you can maintain for 1 hour) Those numbers are more useful for training purposes.

Thanks for that. I looked on velo sports site, its seems pretty interesting. I guess I was curious about my Vo2 because when I was 16 I had it tested and it was 74, and I just wondered if I had raised it any.

Wow, ya 74 is pretty high. It all depends on what kind of training you've been doing since you were 16 and what kind of shape you were in then. It is possible through training to raise your Vo2 max several points, but tough to make it change a lot if you are a reasonably fit person to begin with.
Vo2 max is very short duration maximum, The real mark of fitness is the percentage of your Vo2 max that you can operate at for any given length of time, say 20mins or an hour. That number is highly trainable.

When I got my Vo2 taken I was in New Orleans at a sports center and it was the day after one of my track races. I guess I have always been curious to see how much it changed because at that time I was running around 4:30 for the mile and when I graduated college I was runring around 4:08 for the mile. After I graduated I started biking some just because I was burned out on running. I have now been biking more and just wanted to see if there were any places where I could get some test taken.

One thing to remember is that your number can be very different on a bike vs running. Min hrt rate swings 20 beats for almost every zone.
