This is a trail run, not a ride, but wondered if anybody had any thoughts on it: www.tuckreader.com/assault-on-black-rock-race/"Just walking from the Fisher Creek Rd. trailhead of Pinnacle Park to Black Rock, high on the ridgeline of the Plott Balsams, is a grueling effort. But on March 19 Western North Carolina’s elite trail runners, crazy hill climbers, and happy-go-lucky self torturers will have the chance to race there and back again on an 8.3 mile course that boasts a 2,700-foot elevation gain." I'm thinking of doing it. Who's with me?

Just clocked it today. Its more like 7 miles and 3000ft gained. Very Very hard run. Dont think I would want to race that. The last 0.5 mile climb is pretty crazy. Hands and knees. connect.garmin.com/activity/69658258

I did Rock2Rock at Lake Eden last year and it's 2100' in about 5 miles, so it would be comparable in feet/mile. R2R is more like a death march than a "run", so I'm not surprised this would be similar. The hard part for me isn't so much the going up (cardio); it's the coming down (risk of injury). I'm debating, since the DuPont Forest 12k Trail Run is the following weekend.

Yeah, I can see some people crash and burn on that decent. The trails have a lot of stuff in them too, so the decent will be pretty tricky.

On Rock2Rock it's not so much a descent as it is 2.5 miles of continuous falling-down-a-mountain, while trying to keep your feet lower than your head. I would imagine this will be the same. I've decided not to do it. I've got Dupont Forest 12k the following weekend and Dupont Half Marathon a couple weeks later. Don't want to risk missing either of those due to injuries. Or death.
