Many of you know Paul Battenfeld, local cyclist, melodrome enthusiast and all-around nice guy. Evidently he hit a dog on his bike, fell on his head and is currently in ICU at Mission, paralyzed from the neck down. He's got surgery on Tuesday. Looks like the ABRC board might be updated with messages. See this thread. ashevillebike.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=clubinfo&action=display&thread=2124&page=1#1281918621 Paul's one of the nicest guys I know. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts (and prayers if you're into that kind of thing). Chris

There is a significant update here, now, posted by George: ashevillebike.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=clubinfo&action=display&thread=2124&page=1#1281994442Unfortunately there is no clear prognosis yet, but there are some good signs for which to be thankful and base strong hope. I spoke to somebody who visited Lisen today, and she suggested that written cards that Paul can see and read would be better than phone calls or flowers during this immediate next few days. Keep him in your thoughts and/or prayers. Mike

As a CHRISTian, I will, & already have, pray for Paul & his family. Hope all will join in & be careful out there on your rides.

So this comes from the ABRC board per Jim McMillen:
"I just left Paul and Lisen. They have requested I rename the thread, because Paul is not paralyzed. He had surgery last night and all went well. He is moving all extremities and has rapidly returning sensation also. He sat on the side of the bed today and they told him to sit up straight."
I feel this thread, even though it isn't he main thread, should be renamed as well.

That is great news! Prayers have been answered!!! I will still keep it going, it never hurts to have extras. Hope he finds himself on a bike as soon it is possible.

I had dogs come out at me at the top of "the Wall" on the Tuesday night ride (solo) and coming down Walnut Creek on Ring of Fire Wednesday. To say I was even more defensive than usual would be an understatement.
