As some of you know, the Tuesday ride was pulled over last Tuesday. The officer (correctly) pointed out that we were riding 3-4 abreast and impeding the flow of traffic. He said a couple of things that a few of us were not sure were quite correct, but the bottom line is that he was nice, he did not write us a ticket, he correctly called us on riding unsafely and he wanted to start a dialogue with cyclists about our responsibilities on the road.
I think we need to make a real effort to ride no more than two abreast--anytime really, but particularly on the Tuesday ride. I know there is a difference of opinion on whether this is technically "the law" or not, but the bottom line is that it's just the right thing to do. We want people to treat us well, therefore we should do what we can to be respectful of people coming home from work. He also noted that he's on the lookout for cyclists running through stop signs so be careful and please try to come to a complete stop at stop signs (particularly the one in front of the police station that we frequently fly through on Tuesdays).

I like that this happened. I've never felt totally safe when the group swells to 3+ wide. Glad he was willing to use the experience as a lesson for the cyclists, and not write tickets as he could have.

I haven't been there the past couple weeks... just glad that this was all very friendly and non-confrontational. Also glad to see everybody's positive take on it in the forums as well! See ya all out there on the road (but only two by two). Oh.. does this include the sprint?
