I'm looking at the forecast and seeing dry weather and highs in the low 50s for Helen, GA this coming weekend. Will see how it goes the next couple days, but I am considering getting a room at the Hampton Inn for Sunday night and doing two days of riding. Anybody in for the following?: - Sunday, Day 1: park just below Neels Gap, do a counterclockwise loop of Wolfpen, Woody and Neels. 35 miles.
- Sunday evening, check into hotel, get dinner, find someplace fun to hang out that's actually open on a Sunday night in January.
- Monday, Day 2: ride from Hotel, do a counterclockwise loop of Unicoi, Jacks/Brasstown, and Hogpen (the hard way). 45 miles.
Dumb question from a Yankee... anybody know if riding up Brasstown isn't possible in the winter? I know the visitors center is closed but is the road open? If we can't climb Brasstown, we can add Owl Creek road into the loop and keep roughly the same distance but with a lot less hurtin'.
