So I have velonews.com set as my homepage. The headline that was up when I got on today was 'An American start for the Giro?' Apparently the race organizers have mentioned the consideration of starting the Italian race in the USA in 2011. I think this sounds like it may be a bit illogical given the logistical nightmare that would come from the time difference and the long flight from America to Italy at the beginning of a 3 week race.
How about, instead of trying something like starting one of the 3 european grand tours in the US, try starting a US grand tour. I know it has been talked of, even the route has been mapped out to the extent of the host cities. But to my knowledge, that is as far as the planning made it.
I saw this and laughed at the idea. I could be wrong though, maybe they have something else planned that could make it more feasible.

I don't think the Giro will be coming here Ted. It would, however, be awesome if a US grand tour was put together. I'd love to see the pros climb up the wall and on to Waterrock Knob, or up to Mt. Mitchell. Then again, they would probably destroy those climbs and make me feel inept.
