Just thought that I would let everyone know what's going on with the Yellow Bike Program at Western. If you haven't heard of the program, here's a rundown for you; the Yellow Bikes are a free mode of transportation for students, faculty, staff, and visitors of WCU to use, these bikes are spray painted yellow and are kept unlocked on the bike racks throughout campus. The Yellow Bikes operate on somewhat of a first come first serve basis. If there is a bike outside of the building that you are leaving, it's yours to use to get to wherever you are going to on campus, when you get to your destination the bike is to be left outside on the bike rack for another individual to use, if the bike is there when you need to leave, it is yours to use again. This project is Stephen Benson’s brainchild, and now that he has graduated, the WCU Bike Club will be making sure that his work pays off and that the program continues. There is a facebook page if you are interested in joining, the link is: www.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=6500&post=38286&uid=20355249949#/group.php?gid=20355249949, there's more information there as well.
Ok so, now to the news! We are planning on revealing the bikes at Valley Balley Hoo this year, which will be Saturday, August 22nd from 4-8pm on the UC lawn. There will also be a ribbon cutting for the project on Monday the 24th. We are still working out the details on this and I will update this thread with a set time when we know for sure. The bikes will be up for use after the ribbon cutting. We have about a dozen bikes as of now, but will hopefully receive more as word gets out and the project grows. Some of these bikes are bikes that have been collected by campus police and others have been donated to the project.
Thanks for your interest in the Yellow Bike Project, we hope that these bikes are put to good use and can serve everyone as needed!
