I've got two new times to post. I beat my personal best and made it up in 9:35. This time I attacked the hill first, instead of doing it at the end of my ride when I am 18 miles in already. I was shocked at the jump in my best time just by starting fresh. My roomate, Ben Willis went with me. He made it up in 8:36.

I did the challange for the first time today. Wow, it really hurt. I think I can cut like 20 or 30 seconds by just knowing the course now and then maybe not drinking beers the night before.

Josh – we'd all like to see this -- you should try the climb again sometime soon and peg your HR to 135, if you want a good objective time/wattage check against your pre-knee-surgery, March 23 benchmark. You could then go for an all-out effort too and see how close to 6 minutes you can get...
March 23: 9:50 at 135HR, Josh Whitmore

I like the sound of that sub-challenge challenge. As long as Josh doesn't overdo his knee, which I am sure he knows his limits.

Vespa, I spotted a little typo, on both the mens and overall lists you have 9:10, Mike Despeaux 9:31, Jackson Amburn 9:30, Christopher Holden
Jackson and Chris are flip flopped. Nothing big, just saw that mix up when I checked the times.

I rode with him the other day and he definitely out-climbs me. He just needs to give the airport a try again soon.

Well I attempted the airport challenge today. I realized my HR monitor wasn't working right which is my clock. The type I have doesn't have a stop watch built into it but yet the time/seconds show only when the HR is working. Well I finally get it to working so I take off. Its working great all the ways up to the right turn. I make the turn then get about half way up the steepest section then glance at my HR monitor to realize its frozen. Hmm..all that for nothing. Well 3+ something minutes of pointless pain. Okay time for new batteries for the HR monitor. I will attempt it again next week.

So I did the challenge today. I am honestly in terrible shape right now. I barely got to ride all summer (6-8hrs a week tops). I rounded the curve thinking I was going to break under 6 minutes but when I stood up thinking it was going to happen my body told me differently Time went downhill QUICK from there. I also did a warm up at 172 to see where I was at before I attempted anything. I was more concerned with this time than my max time because it allows me to judge my fitness more than my power/jump. HR 172 - 7:25 - wow look at how close this was to last time MAX - 6:37 - 11 seconds slower than my first attempt. I know I can break 6 minutes but not right now. I really wanted to do this today. I get a bike fit Thursday so I really want to see in 2-3 weeks of riding in a proper position how much of a difference it makes so I will do this challenge within the next 3 weeks I am sure. Clint!

Warning for the record books, Rumor has it that former legendary Cullowhee resident Darby Harris (Turbo) will try the airport TT on friday night before he defends his unbeaten streak of Tour de Tuck for the 3rd year in a row.
The general consensus is that Turbo hasn't been riding that much since being a full time Phd student (or at least not making appearances at races), but the paparazzi have told me he has been spotted putting in lots of time on the trainer.

At first I was going to post a "smart" comment to Mr Turbo, but then I thought about it and realized there's nothing to be worried about. Does Darby really think he's going to beat six minutes and take the record?
Wait did I just say six minutes? I meant 5:44
I still think I can do better too, my arms gave out on me as I began to sprint for the gate. I guess I should start lifting some weights or something to balance out my "chicken legs." Is that what they were called last Tuesday? I want to see a certain women post a time!

Oh man, that is HUGE. 5:44 is smokin! I don't think I'll ever be able to beat that even if I do get fit again.
Darby may be so intimidated he might not even try.
No Surprise, Stephen was laying it too me on the steep sections on the Tuesday night ride after I would attack him on every flat section. Deb's comments on his chicken legs have propelled him to glory.
